Was having a cbox discussion with Boom and a couple others who inputted some bits and pieces, and we came up with a potential end story plot for Isilme to give some explanation and direction to a rather... abrupt ending.
Was speculated that the herds were ousted from their homes by the shadows and eventually cornered all together in the Gateway with whatever outcasts joined them there. The fighters defended the retreat while the foals and noncombatants fled through the Gateway, then the survivors followed after, surrendering Isilme in favor of keeping the survivors alive.
Eventually whoever was left stumbled upon Helovia, and the survivors then spread out to find a place for themselves. Thought perhaps family groups and clusters of old herd members.
This would also give good reasons why some characters aren't crossing over. Wouldn't leave their herdlands, fell defending the retreat, got cut off, etc. And maybe some fled sooner and went elsewhere.
Whoever's interested in this is welcome to post here with confirmation or further ideas. ^.^
