Are we still having a map contest/ getting a map up of helovia?
also, I was thinking that, since leads can make alterations to their herdlands like buildings and walls and farm fields/ trading goods areas now that it would be cool if each herdland had its own up-to-date map of the BIG changes made to the land?

We hadn't discussed a map contest, though that would be a great idea, Illu.
The admins were considering an Icon contest for magic, COTM, and monthly champs, though.
How would you guys feel about either?

Though, I was wondering, what IS the general layout of helovia. Like, I know where the herdlands are but exactly where everything else is.lol

It's one of those things that will be pieced together before the contest. The descriptions can give you a pretty solid idea of where things lay in relation to one another.

I had an idea for a contest...
What if we have an ongoing referral contest? So every time we place an ad, we can put on it "don't forget to say that _____ referred you!' or if we refer friends. Then new members can put on the update thread or something who referred them. Each referral is a point, and after a certain number of points you get a reward - like five for a marking, ten for magic, fifteen for foal stats, twenty for a companion. or whatever.

I second the referral contest.
But in general, we need to have more contests that aren't as centered around art skills, because I for one feel left out when there's art contest after art contest and I can't participate or earn any of the nifty prizes.

It's not that we want to have solely artsy contests, but icons & a map are things that are needed for the site, and we'd like to have them done soon.
The admins have been trying to brainstorm contests without visual artistic skill, but unfortunately, most of what we're left with are writing contests, which don't get much participation because everyone is burnt out on posting. :|
I do like the idea of a referral contest, which would help get activity up as well. ^^

Could always do more 'games', like IC scavenger hunts or trivia or something similar. Could even get non-admin to pitch in, because I know myself and Nogard have excessive amounts of time on our hands compared to pretty much everyone else. XD

IC anything tends to drag on a while, but I do like scavenger hunts. I believe in Isilme the reason it didn't work was because it went to the first person who answered.
Maybe we could set up IC teams who have individual hints they have to search for based on riddles? Then the first team to find their last hint find the "treasure" so to speak. That could be a lot of fun. Plus it would be sort of a race to see who could find the clues first... nothing drives like friendly competition. c:

I think we've always done a good job at providing a mixture of contests?
As mentioned writing ones that were previously offered on Isilme never took off, we can only assume because everyone was already spent on posting.
Some of the games worked and some didn't, hang man and word search are always good, but can be a bit time consuming for admin to make. I liked the race and scavenger hunt we set up before, and since they were newer did have some flaws, so I think the new method Boom suggested might work for the hunt.
That's also why we tried to provide photography contests as well, almost everyone has a camera right? Or finding stock for land pictures, that's not really artsy, just time consuming xP But yes we do need icons made.
Regarding the map, no one knows what Helovia looks like or is laid out except for Tamme, and she has already started to draw a map I believe, just hasn't had time to finish it.
