:: VICTORY POINTS :: For every judged fight, a character earns at least one victory point. Victory points serve as a form of tracking fighting experience. Earning them allows your character to gain battle buffs. You will always gain a victory point for arising victorious, but sometimes you can earn an additional one or more, depending on the conditions in the fight. +1 : defeating your opponent +1 : opponent was a leader rank +1 : opponent used magic and companion when you used neither +2 : killing your opponent +2 : teaching spar You cannot earn victory points in a fight unless there were at least 2 posts each. A teaching spar is where one of the involved fighters will be breaking down the fight as it goes, explaining to the other fighter the good points and bad points to each of their posts. The fighters will make their in character posts, then the one teaching will make an OOC post, reviewing both of their posts and step by step detailing why an attack or dodge was good or bad, how it can be improved upon or changed. The OOC post is made after each round of in character fighting posts. Generally this is very time consuming, but very beneficial. BATTLE BUFFS Battle buffs are earned through fighting and subsequent victory points. As a character becomes involved in more fights and wins those fights, it's understandable that they would gain more experience and grow in skill. Battle buffs provide an in character benefit to a fight, but do not directly effect the score. Should your opponent fail to react properly to the changes a buff gives your character, they may receive point subtractions in the judging rubric. You are not required to use your buffs, and an opponent doesn't need to respond to them unless you specifically describe them during the fight. Your character can only use two buffs per fight, and must clearly state which ones will be chosen in the first fight post. Even if a character has earned more than two buffs, they are still limited to a selection of two. This is to avoid overpowering any one character, and does offer a more strategic use of the buffs available, as some might be more useful for particular opponents.
